Emparedado de la flor

An underground flower petal home. It sounds like something out of a fairy tale.
But they exist! And astoundingly smart and wonderful little bees from Iran and Turkey are building them.

The solitary Osmia avosetta bee builds these "flower sandwiches", which have a layer of petals on the outside, a layer of mud, and then a final layer of petals inside. These nestle the little baby bee larva while it eats pollen and nectar, before it's sealed in to grow.
