There's more to life than money, ya know. Don't cha know that?

This past weekend I decided to just veg out and do some movie-watchin'. I kept to a theme and watched all the Coen bros movies that Netflix had to offer.
I started with Raising Arizona, which I think I had seen bits of, but that would have been ages ago. It was great! And pretty much the only role I've ever seen Nicolas Cage in that made me genuinely like him.

From there I went to the other two movies, which I had never heard of.

Barton Fink (1991)

I watched both on the tv, so I couldn't do my own stills. The quality of these leave something to be desired

Both were definitely enjoyable movies. Odd, and probably something I wouldn't have liked at all a few years back. But I could certainly appreciate them. The dialogue in the Coens' movies is just amazing. And the sets! Whether it's a lavish hotel lobby or grimy little room, it's always perfect.

Then tonight while looking for something to watch, Fargo was on tv.
I hadn't seen this poster for the movie before, isn't it just awesome?

FIlm Friday

25 by girl and tonic

I still haven't made my way to a scanner, so another photo from my old LCA+.
This was taken from the train, somewhere in North Dakota. That state was definitely my favourite to go through - the sky was HUMONGOUS. And there was field after field filled with sunflowers and lazy cows. It was beautiful.

Surf's Up

I still haven't quite mastered the art of remembering to take pictures. When I was a teenager I did it all the time! These days though, I'm more reluctant to pull myself out of the moment and document it. Maybe that's good, who knows.

This past week was a full one, as my family visited from Ontario! They had all been out before, but separately, so this was the first time all us McKnights were together in the west. We had a few days here in the city and then made a trek out to the farthest reaches (well, farthest west) of the island - Tofino.
It was glorious. The first night there we had hurricane force winds and the power went out. People who worked there said they hadn't had waves so big in years. We had a chalet at the Long Beach hotel with a hot tub, and Minnie finally figured out how to walk on a leash (and ran her cute little bum all over the beach).
All in all, it was a fantastic trip.

Film Friday - naked Chloe!

littleme

Last Saturday my family arrived from Hamilton for a week visit, so you can understand why it's been so quiet around here.
Another picture of a picture, hence the lousy quality. But right now I'm posting this from Tofino while I wait for the rest of the gang to wake up. Usin' what I got.
And another photo from the vault...vintage Chloe, runnin' around (crawlin' around?) how I was most comfortable back then, and often how I'm still most comfortable (around the house anyways).

Film Friday

theresa &adam

Well, I didn't get a chance to scan any pictures this week, so another one from what I can find.

My high school friend Theresa and my fella at a party a good 10 years ago.
Theresa lives out here, in the interior; I haven't seen her. I've been out here 3 years but haven't really left the lower mainland at all.

Teal time

Vancouver has funny weather. In the spring time especially it can get beautiful and sunny in February, which always convinces me it's going to stay that way forever. The last few days have been just that, and even though I'm sure within the week it will go back to grey and rainy/snowy I can't help but hope!
I generally ring in the spring with colour, and I love these photos (c/o the sartorialist) with their bright, bold colours (that mustard again!).

Chloe Reads

I've always been a pretty huge bookworm. In the last few years though I've realized that I have a hard time reading if I'm sad, or have something stressing me out. The last little while for me has included both of these emotions, and as a result I have not read much.

As I mentioned recently, I just finished Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood, which was the first book I finished since probably about November.
This is unacceptable! And so to mimic the popular CBC tradition of Canada Reads, I bring you Chloe Reads: bookshelf edition.

I have banned myself from buying or borrowing books from the library until I read (at least) 5 of the books I already own. I'm also aiming to get them all read within 2 months (which I feel is more than enough time really...just setting myself up for success).

My selected 5:
books

Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf - just one of those books I've been meaning to read for ages.

A Great Deliverance by Elizabeth George - I was given this book from a family member. I was raised on a steady diet of British mysteries and in the last two years I've read a lot of PD James so this seems like something I'll enjoy. I started it last night actually and I think it'll be a nice quick read.

Wide Saragasso Sea by Jean Rhys - I've read a lot of her already. Most of what I've read by her I think I did in my hostel room in Thunder Bay, which is kind of fitting really. This is actually one of her better known books it seems.

The Blessing by Nancy Mitford - I haven't read anything by her before. A couple years back I got into the Mitford sisters and the crazy life they all lead. When I was back home recently I noticed this book and grabbed it.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - again, another from that list of classics to be read.

I didn't set out to pick all lady authors, but there you have it.
