Edward Hopper

While over at my pal Alison's house she showed me her goodies from Christmas, one of which was a 2011 calendar of Edward Hopper's paintings.
I had no idea who he was, until I saw the one painting he's most known for, Nighthawks:

Nighthawks - Edward Hopper

Right? Of course I know Edward Hopper!
Anyways, I was really taken with his other work. The light and shadow in his paintings are so lovely, and there's just something about all the ladies in his work - I immediately want to know everything about them.

  1. Wow, I knew of Hopper, but had never seen all these portraits. I think I'd just seen his paintings of buildings & sailboats. The 'Mad Men' fan that you are, I can see why you'd like them. :)

  3. When I took a painting class in university I was super into Edward Hopper! And Edward Thiebaud. For an assignment I made a reproduction painting of his Five Hot Dogs piece: http://www.artnet.com/Magazine/reviews/wong/wong7-9-2.asp
So simple looking, but getting the right shades of brown for the dog and the bun drove me nuts!

  4. Kate - that painting is wonderful! Another dude I can check out.
My boy has a serious love on for hotdogs too, a print of that framed would make a perfect gift :)
